October 17, 2009 was a cold, dreary autumn day on Grandfather Mountain. The purpose of this trip was to leaf watch. I had hoped to see the fall colors at their peak, but mostly I just saw the color grey. It was so cold that the top of Grandfather Mountain was iced over and closed to the public. There were even a few snowflakes that fell.
